The PH 5 500 designer pendant light, with its modern monochrome look, provides diffused light

The famously striking design of the PH 5 500 pendant light is complemented by the monochrome colours and matt-finished lampshades, giving it a contemporary look. Thanks to the interesting three-shade system, the light is constantly reflected back onto itself. The majority of the light produced is directed downwards. The light emitted is completely glare-free and bathes the room in a cosy atmosphere. The beams of light emitted to the sides ensure that the entire room is subtly illuminated and that the light itself begins to glow.

The delicate connecting rods made of rolled aluminium give the light a special touch and emphasise the variety of forms in the PH 5 500, which they complement perfectly and are rounded off by the uniform colour scheme. The PH 5 500 pendant light was designed in 1958 by the Danish designer Poul Henningsen. It was his response to the constantly changing shapes and sizes of traditional light bulbs. It owes its name to the size of the main shade, which has a diameter of 50 cm. The designer lived from 1894 to 1967 and created numerous designer lights for the long-established Danish company Louis Poulsen, which has been producing designer lights for over 100 years.
