Great design, made in Germany – the Flechtwerk floor lamp with 3D-printed lampshade

The lampshade of this design-orientated floor lamp opens to the top like a funnel; thus making Flechtwerk a kind of uplighter. Despite this, the light does not just shine upwards –the lampshade has been produced using an innovative 3D-print technique. It features a chessboard-like structure with cut-outs so the light shines outwards at all angles to create special effects and an impressive interplay between light and shade. This creates an exceptionally cosy ambience and lends to the homely feel exuded by the unique Flechtwerk floor lamp.

This floor lamp does not just impress in terms of looks, however; it is worth taking a closer look at the material and manufacturing process, as this design is only made possible by 3D print technology. The material used is also lightweight, stable and can be simply wiped clean. It is a biomaterial made from renewable raw materials without the use of oil or other toxic chemicals. Meanwhile, the 3D print procedure enables zero-waste production as there are no offcuts. The only material used within the sustainable production process is that which later features in the light itself. Finally, the Flechtwerk lampshade is produced using green electricity on a zero emissions basis, to further underline its sustainable credentials.
