Table fans and pedestal fans provide a small or large breeze at home or in the office

When outside temperatures soar, the air in the house or office becomes unbearably hot and stuffy. If you don't have air conditioning, you'll have to use a fan to get some fresh air. There are basically three different types of fans: ceiling fans, pedestal fans and table fans. They all ensure better air circulation, but cannot lower the room temperature per se. A pedestal fan or table fan causes the air to move, which the human skin perceives as cooling. For many people, this makes them feel more comfortable; in offices, a fan can reduce a drop in performance and increase concentration on hot days by regulating the temperature. However, it is also regularly the case that people catch colds due to excessive airflow. Table-top and pedestal fans offer the option of providing individual groups of employees with a cooling draught and leaving other employees largely unaffected by the individual air change.

Table fans and pedestal fans should be selected according to the size of the cooling area

Compared to pedestal fans, table fans are the smaller fan model. Due to its small size, it is suitable for placing on a desk, for example. However, as a table fan is usually limited in its power, it does not create a particularly large draught, so that only one or a few people can benefit from the effect of the table fan. However, this is quite sufficient, considering that the distance from the desk top to the person sitting at the desk, for example, is minimal. Where a pedestal fan would achieve more than just the individual employee with the air flow, the table fan provides targeted cooling. In the case of desks for several people, despite the low power of a fan for the desk, care must be taken to ensure that the air flow is not sufficient to disorganise documents and papers at the neighbouring desk or to interrupt the concentration of the person sitting next to you - even if only slightly - due to a draught.

Unlike table fans, pedestal fans provide cooling on a larger scale

If you want to improve the air quality in an entire area, pedestal fans are more suitable than table fans. The head of the pedestal fan, i.e. the rotor and the rotor blades, is raised on a stand, which can be adjusted in height on many models. Some of the pedestal fans also have castors on the feet so that the "wind machine" can be used in different places in the room. With pedestal fans - as with all fans - attention must be paid to performance. The size and performance of the fan are decisive for the air flow that is generated. As both table fans and pedestal fans usually have a cable, it is important to ensure that the "cool breeze" does not become a tripping hazard, in addition to the personal feeling of individuals. The use of these types of fans can thus become a truly efficiency-enhancing method. You can find more information in our guide to finding the right fan.
