Everything you need for your URail installation

URail power feed (power feed)

The power feed is the point at which the electricity from the domestic grid enters the URail system. Without a power feed, no voltage flows into the tracks, which means that the entire lighting system remains dark. There are different variants - end or central power feed - depending on how you want to lay the rails.

URail tracks

The tracks form the basic structure of the Paulmann URail system and are comparable to a modular system. The electricity flows through them and at the same time they carry the lights. The rails are available in different lengths and can be combined into larger, interconnected systems using connectors.

URail connector

Connectors are the "puzzle pieces" that join the individual rails together. They enable rails to be continued straight, angled at right angles or assembled in more complex shapes such as T, X or Flex connectors. Without connectors, the rails could not function as a coherent system.

URail lights (spots, pendants, spotlights)

Lights are the visible part of the system and provide the light in the room. They are simply inserted into the rails and supplied with power directly via them. The advantage lies in the flexibility: lights can be moved or replaced at any time without having to lay additional cables.

Please note! To ensure that the URail installation succeeds step by step, you should observe two points: Careful measuring is crucial - even small measuring errors can result in the rails and connectors no longer fitting together precisely. Work on the 230-volt power supply may only be carried out by a qualified electrician, as legal regulations apply here and only professional installation guarantees safety.

Planning the Paulmann URail installation

Whether you are planning a completely new URail or expanding an existing system, good planning is crucial for reliable and safe installation. This is because the Paulmann URail lighting system offers almost unlimited possibilities for customising your lighting.

Important: The best way to start planning is with a sketch:

  • Mark the power outlet on the ceiling (the hole from which the electrical cables enter the room) - this is your starting point. Starting from a single power feed, you can connect track elements of up to 20 metres in length - in two directions with a central power feed. With URail, up to 40 m of rail are possible with a central power feed. The maximum utilisation is 1,000 watts, which is more than sufficient for both LED and halogen bulbs.
  • Draw the desired rail course. URail track lengths are available in 10 cm, 50 cm, 100 cm and 200 cm. This allows you to customise your system precisely to the room.
  • To connect several URail tracks together, suitable URail connectors are used to connect the tracks electrically. Numerous practical URail connectors are available, from longitudinal connectors and corner connectors to Flex connectors, to branch systems precisely. Always include the size of the connector in your sketch, otherwise the rail lengths will not fit exactly.
  • Determine which areas you want to illuminate with spots or pendant lights. The URail system has a large selection of high-quality lights for every application. The Paulmann URail spots are simply clicked into the tracks later. Always ensure that there is no voltage and consult an electrician.
  • The URail system is expandable. So you can retrofit new lights at any time. Thanks to the extensive range of spotlights, spots, pendant lights and tracks in various colours, you can design your lighting concept flexibly and stylishly.

How to install a Paulmann URail track system: URail is a high-voltage system (230 V) and therefore does not require a transformer. URail is connected directly to the 230-volt power supply. Only work on de-energised cables and always consult a qualified electrician. The electrician will ensure that the power is switched off and prevent accidental switching on.

Details on the power feed of Paulmann URail

Choosing the right power feed is the first step towards a flexible URail track lighting system that adapts perfectly to your spatial conditions and your requirements. Depending on the room size and track layout, you can choose between centre or end power feed or one of the special variants.

With an end power feed, the power is fed in at the end of a URail track. This is particularly recommended if the electrical connection is at the edge of the room or if the track lighting system is only to run in one direction.

A central power feed is suitable for larger rooms as well as for combinations of different living areas, for example in the frequent living/dining room combination. Here, the electricity is fed in from a central point, for example the ceiling connection in the centre of the room. Rails can run in both directions.

The cable feed is used if the URail track lighting system is to be suspended. The power feed is then provided at the ceiling and the current is fed to the track by cable.

The special ZigBee power feed is used to integrate the URail track lighting system into a smart home system - or to start one with it.

Safety note: We recommend that you always consult an electrician when installing Paulmann URail. The electrical installation is not suitable for non-professionals. Depending on the size of the room and the number of rails, it usually takes between 1 and 3 hours to install a URail rail system.

Mounting the URail components

The selected power feed (end or central power feed) is installed at the power outlet in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. The rails are attached to the ceiling after exact measurements have been taken. The desired URail lights (e.g. spots or pendants) are inserted into the mounted rails according to the instructions.

Important: Work on 230 V may only be carried out by a qualified electrician.
