VL45 Radiohus pendant light by Vilhelm Lauritzen
In the 1940s, renowned Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen designed lights for the radio building in Copenhagen. In 2016, Danish manufacturer Louis Poulsen revived these pendant lights under the name VL45 Radiohus, using the original design and materials.
The pendant light has a lampshade made of handblown opal glass consisting of three layers: The inner and outer layers are made of transparent, shiny glass and the middle layer is made of white glass. The lampshade has an opening at the bottom, which creates a downward-facing cone of light. The opal glass is also gently permeated by light, so that the lampshade is illuminated all around, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Vilhelm Lauritzen, who designed Copenhagen's first airport and the Nørrebro Theatre, among other things, was one of Denmark's most important architects. In his light designs, he combined strong and weaker light to create an interplay of contours and nuances.
