Handmade shade: Designer pendant lamp Lamella 1The two designers Hallgeir Homstvedt and Jonah Takagi have taken inspiration for their pendant lamp Lamella 1 from nature, namely from mushrooms. On the underside of many mushroom heads are lamellae, similar to those found on the appropriately titled Lamella lamp model. The spherical lampshade is laid throughout in small folds that look like lamellae. The white, slightly shiny and translucent foil was folded and shaped by hand for this purpose. The typical folded lampshades by Le Klint have a long tradition. The two designers Hallgeir Homstvedt and Jonah Takagi, who run studios in Oslo and Washington, have incorporated the traditional design and the special Plica folding technique into their contemporary designs and modernised them. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, the first folding umbrellas were made by hand by the renowned Klint family of architects, until finally in 1943 the official foundation of the company and the opening of the first shop in Copenhagen took place. Today, Le Klint still sees itself as a manufactory that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
