Designer desk light: Taj by Ferruccio Laviani

The Taj model by designer Ferruccio Laviani – who has been designing lights and furniture for the Italian company Kartell for over 20 years – represents a deliberate alternative to articulated, mechanised desk lamps. Its sculptural yet simple form enables the table lamp to make a bold aesthetic statement whilst also fulfilling its function as a desk lamp to perfection. The LEDs are fitted at the top of the gracefully curved body – which is virtually a single moulded piece – so that they can direct their light downwards onto the desk surface.

Among Kartell’s most prominent design pieces are, for example, the K 1340 children’s chair and the KS 1481 lemon squeezer. In the lighting range, the Model 4006 by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni from 1959 and the Tic Tac series serve as the company’s flagship products and are highly recognisable. Many of Kartell’s designer pieces have not only won various awards but, despite their relatively recent creation, can already be admired in museums.
