Artichoke hanging light: an artistically designed object

When you see the Artichoke hanging light, you can't help but think of the plant of the same name from the Asteraceae family, whose edible inflorescences are often eaten as a vegetable. This is due to the 72 leaf-like metal elements that make up the body of the Artichoke hanging light, which is still largely handmade today in order to maintain high quality standards. The precisely angled leaves are arranged in twelve individual rows of six leaves each, creating a very homogeneous and completely glare-free light emission, exactly as its creator, designer Poul Henningsen, had intended for his lighting creations.

During his collaboration with Louis Poulsen from 1925 to 1967, Poul Henningsen created numerous lighting models in which he consistently implemented his views on the duality of design and light.
