PH 3 1/2-3 glass pendant light by Poul Henningsen with the classic three-shade system

Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system in 1925/26 for the Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen. The lampshade consists of three layers of handblown opal glass, which is glossy on the outside and matt sandblasted on the inside. This glass composition creates a soft and gentle light distribution that is also glare-free. Henningsen made numerous calculations and ultimately designed the three glass shades of the lampshade to be specially curved and arranged in such a way that, for example, dining tables or the room itself are illuminated without glare. The light's suspension is made of brass and finished with a high-gloss chrome finish, emphasising the shine of the lampshade.

Poul Henningsen focused his professional career on lighting design and, in collaboration with Louis Poulsen, created numerous lights that emit glare-free light and serve human lighting needs. Louis Poulsen gives the lights a harmonious balance between craftsmanship and innovation and continues to apply Henningsen's pioneering work in lighting theory.
