Atmospheric Maluma™ hanging light made of handblown glass

Designed by Fumie Shibata and launched in 2021, this hanging light is an eye-catching feature in any room, both when switched on and off, as it always retains its colour. The lampshade is made of handblown frosted glass, which has been shaped into a decorative lampshade with soft curves that allows the light from the bulb to diffuse throughout the room and also emits direct, functional light through the open bottom of the glass. Maluma™ is just one example of the understated serenity of Fumie Shibata's designs, which combine form and function in a way that integrates almost unnoticed into everyday life.

Fumie Shibata (born 1965) is a Japanese product designer who focuses on industrial design. She studied at Musashino Art University and then worked at Toshiba. In 1994, she founded her own design studio, Studio S. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Mainichi Award, the Good Design Award, the Red Dot Award and the iF Gold Award. She has been teaching as a professor at Musashino Art University since 2014 and has been vice-chair of the Good Design Award committee since 2015.
