Minneapolis designer floor lamp: timeless Chic for living spaces and hotels The Minneapolis floor lamp design, created by Studio Friis & Moltke, was created in 1984 for the Scanticon Hotel (now Crown Plaza) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The luminaire series designed for the hotel and conference centre consists of pendant, floor, table and wall lights with discreet lines that have an almost Japanese feel and harmonise stylistically with numerous furnishing styles. The lights were later also used in the Borupgård conference centre and the H. C. Andersen Hotel in Odense. Minneapolis is fitted with a simple metal frame and a wide lampshade, which ensures that the light is diffused over a large area. A floor lamp that provides cosy additional lighting in any room. The Frandsen lighting company from Skanderborg in Denmark was founded in 1968 by engineer Benny Frandsen: He had the dream of creating and producing lighting. At first he designed square, very geometric lights, which were not very popular. He realised that the Danes had a soft spot for round lights and created the spherical Balls light, which led him to success. The factory in Skanderborg was established in 1972.
