Hashira Linear pendant light with a cylindrical fabric shade

The Hashira pendant light resembles a traditional Japanese rice-paper lantern in design, although its lampshade is not made of paper but of fabric. The fabric is stretched over a metal frame, the struts of which are visible through the fabric and lend the light a graphic effect. The pendant light owes its name to its shape, as ‘Hashira’ is the Japanese word for ‘column’.

The Hashira series of lights was designed by the design firm Norm Architects. Founded in 2008, the design studio works primarily in the fields of residential architecture, commercial interior design, art direction and graphic design; through its deliberately chosen name, ‘Norm’, it highlights the importance of standards and traditions in the fields of architecture and aesthetics. The studio’s designs result in timeless and durable products.
