Designer pendant luminaire Kina with grid-like shade made of sustainably produced bamboo veneer The pendant luminaire Kina creates great plays of light and shadow, which is already an eye-catcher when switched off. Visually, the shade is modelled on the saltwater sea urchin of New Zealand, which is also reflected in the name. Kina means sea urchin in the Maori language. Kina is suitable for the basic or area lighting in many modern designed living rooms and attracts all eyes in every place. With its natural charm and unique lighting effect, Kina creates a cosy ambience. David Trubridge, the creative mind behind this fascinating luminaire design, was actually a shipbuilder in England before he went on a great voyage with his family in a sailing yacht and finally settled in New Zealand. Since then, inspired by his travels and the beauty of the nature that surrounds him, he has devoted himself to furniture and luminaire design. He attaches great importance to materials from sustainable cultivation. For Kina, he used bamboo veneer from sustainable timber farming, cut and punched by machines powered by water. To keep CO2 consumption during transport as low as possible, the umbrella is delivered in individual parts. This way, it is possible to reduce the volume of the umbrella to 3 % of the total volume.
