Mirror lighting

The bathroom mirror is part of our everyday life, for example, make-up, shaving and washing our face. Perfect mirror lighting can make daily facial care a pleasurable experience. Mirrors should be bright, glare-free and precisely matched to the person in front of the mirror.

What options are there for mirror lighting?

Good mirror lighting for your daily routine can be achieved in two ways:

In both cases, mirrors are equipped with additional lights. The ceiling light in the bathroom is not enough. If the ceiling light is directly above the mirror, this will cast shadows on the face. If the light is placed in any other position, standing in front of the mirror may block the light itself.

Besides the mirror

Mounting two wall lights next to the mirror is a popular lighting method. The face is free of shadows due to the light coming from two directions.

Above the mirror

Elongated or oval mirror lights mounted above the mirror provide a wide beam, preventing the cause of shadows.

Mirror with integrated lighting

All-round illumination of the mirror casts light onto the face from all directions, enabling even lighting without casting shadows.

Bathroom mirror with light

Mirrors with lights can be flexibly positioned in the bathroom or mounted on the wall. These mirrors are a helpful addition to any bathroom.

What to look out for in mirror lighting?

There are several options for mounting mirror lights:

Wall-mounted mirror lights

Installing directly on the wall is the most common mounting form for mirror lights.

Illuminated mirrors

Illuminated mirrors can be mounted on the wall. The swivel function allows for flexible alignment at any time.

Mounting on the mirror cabinet

The mirror light is screwed directly onto the mirror cabinet.

Assembly with clamping device

Some mirror lights have a clamping attachment that is clipped onto the mirror.

How are mirror lights installed?

Good mirror lighting consists of three aspects:

  • The face must be illuminated evenly and without shadows

  • The light from the mirror must not dazzle the individual

  • The skin should appear in a natural tone

LED technology is increasingly common in the bathroom. It emits homogeneous light, is very good at reproducing colours with a CRI of at least Ra 80, and is also energy-saving, durable and thus maintenance-free. Moreover, it is switch-proof, which is helpful when lights are often switched on or off, which is the case in the bathroom.

The bathroom lighting must not overwhelm any visitors to the bathroom. That is why no open light sources are used in the bathroom. Mirror lights have a diffuser: a lampshade made of plastic or glass, making the light glare-free and pleasant.

Everyone perceives their reflection differently and wants tailor-made light. Mirror lights with CCT function allow you to conveniently adjust the brightness and colour temperature (in Kelvin) to your taste. Most people prefer a warm white light of <3,300 K in living rooms and bathrooms.
