Salt Lamps

Salt lamps are not only beautiful to look at, but are also famed for their unique ability to promote health and wellbeing within an environment. Handcrafted from the purest of salt formed millions of years ago and mined deep underground in the foothills of the Himalayas, each salt lamp is unique in its appearance, varying in colour from subtle tones of orange through to shades of pink, white and red.

Whether used in conjunction with electric lights or with candles, a huge range of individual shapes and sizes are available, from pyramids, to cones, natural rock shapes to the Feng Shui favoured globe, there is a salt lamp suitable for enhancing each and every living space.

Traditionally used to promote well being across a whole range of natural practices, from complementary health to Feng Shui, salt lamps are believed to be beneficial both psychologically and physically.

The effects of different colours and shades of light have long been used to promote psychological wellbeing by both psychologists and colour therapists. In this way the warm glow emitted by salt lamps helps to create a peaceful, calm and tranquil atmosphere wherever they are placed, eliminating stress and fatigue and aiding relaxation and sleep.

The use of salt lamps to treat ailments as diverse as asthma and insomnia, arthritis and headaches as well as a wide range of skin conditions and allergies is common practice in the world of complementary medicine. They are also excellent additions to office environments and home areas where electrical appliances such as televisions and computers are used as they help to reduce both fatigue and stress, promote awareness and aid concentration.

Salt lamps effectively clean the air around them and the greater their surface area, the greater their ability to enhance air quality. For this reason its important to consider the size of the area in which the salt lamp will be used, for example offices with many computers may benefit more from several larger salt lamps placed around the room, whereas a single, medium sized salt lamp would be more than adequate for a regular sized living room.

The majority of pollutants which cause ailments and allergies, and the draining energy emitted from electronic sources mainly take the form of positive ions. Salt lamps help to promote energy and well being (when warmed by a bulb or candle) by saturating their surrounding environment with negative ions and thus transform these harmful positive ions into neutral elements. The resulting effect is noticeably fresher, healthier air wherever they are used.

Whether you choose to use salt lamps therapeutically, as soothing nightlights in a bedroom or to focus energy and improve concentration in an office, their unique appearance and the well being they promote, means that their use as a lighting feature creates a valuable addition to any living space.
