Rope Lighting

Rope lighting is possibly the most versatile form of accent lighting available on the market. Comprising flexible tubes of coloured or clear PVC resin housing rows of half watt bulbs they are available in a huge range of colours and so can be used with any decor or colour scheme.

Because of the tiny bulbs used, rope lighting gives of a soft glow instead of a harsh glare and so if perfect to use as a night light, under cabinets, to light hall ways and stairways as well as for decorative purposes. As well as rope lights which provide a constant level of illumination, varieties which blink or in which the lights seem to chase one another along the tube are available. These can be equally as attractive and are ideal to use in children’s rooms.

The functionality of rope lighting is not just restricted to inside the house, they also work beautifully outdoors. Whether used to light the edges of drives or pathways, to provide lighting around decking or under parasols, they are flexible enough to be placed wherever needed and provide enough light to see clearly without being too bright.

Although the tiny bulbs which illuminate rope lighting are not replaceable, with normal use rope lights have a light expectancy of approximately 25,000 hours meaning they should last almost a decade. A 12 volt as well as the regular 120 volt option is available, meaning that they are still a practical solution for those who wish to use more energy (and cost) effective lighting.

Rope lighting is usually available in coils of between 30 and 50 foot in length, however it is possible to splice different rope lights (and different coloured rope lights) together if a greater length is needed. They are incredibly easy to fix into place as the majority come with clips which, when attached to a wall / a bookcase etc, will hold the rope lights in place. To avoid drooping, place the clips roughly every 4inches along the length of the tubing. Rope lights also come fitted with a power cable so that they can simply be plugged into the mains making for a really simple installation.

As rope lighting is available in such a variety of colours and can be transformed into a variety of lengths and used inside and out, they provide an incredibly simple yet stylish way to add another layer of light to your home and garden without costing you the earth.
