Dining Room Lighting

When planning the lighting scheme for your dinning room you need to strike a balance between functionality and d?cor. The dinning room is often used for work as well as for entertaining so the lighting needs to be able to accommodate a variety of different atmosphere options, ranging from practical to romantic.

A pendant light or chandelier centralised over the dinning table illuminates the room whilst adding a sense of drama and interest. With these central features you can be as dramatic as you like and as your decor allows; this is really the light with which to make a statement.

It is advisable to fit your central light source with a dimmer switch as this will ensure you have maximum flexibility over the illumination. This enables you to turn the light up when you need to perform tasks and down to create a sense of atmosphere when you are dinning or entertaining. Use of a dimmer switch will also help you to conserve energy and save on your electricity bill!

Recessed or cable lighting as well as sconces can be used to provide a supplementary level of light and to accent architectural features within the room and to highlight objects of interest. They will also enhance the brilliance of a crystal chandelier. Table lamps and torchiers placed in task areas of the room, by a piano or comfy chair will provide an additional layer of focused light.

By carefully considering the way in which you use different areas of your dinning room, you should be able to create a flexible lighting scheme which meets your practical needs and creates an interesting atmosphere and the opportunity for and relaxation.
